Miyo is a Moth StorySLAM Champion and mischievous storyteller and comic based in Los Angeles. Born and raised in Japan, she brings a sharp, cross-cultural perspective and wry humor to the stage.
She has performed all over town, including at the Comedy Chateau and the legendary Ice House, and was featured at the inaugural Moth LA StorySLAM Showcase. Her comedy and storytelling have taken her to festivals across the country, where she delights audiences with tales that are equal parts insightful and ridiculous.
In 2025, she gave a talk on writing styles at AWP (Association of Writers and Writing Programs)—the largest literary conference in the world. Because who says comics can’t be literary?
She majored in Swahili in college (yes, really) and now writes in computer languages by day as a programmer—narratives for machines by day, performances for humans by night.
Her debut solo show, “How To Be Japanese: Your Normal Is Not My Normal,” sold out within 48 hours at the Hollywood Fringe Festival and continues to entertain global audiences.
Miyo also co-produces ESL Comedy at The Crow, a show spotlighting immigrant comedians and storytellers who prove that accents are just seasoning for punchlines.
